Introduction:

Public Administration &Governance is the study of how government works and how it can work better. It is the most ‘applied’of all the disciplines of Social Sciences and is very useful for the student planning a career in public service or politics. Students of Public Administration &Governance study various aspects of government operations, from how governments make policy decisions to how policies are implemented. Some of the most prominent topics studied in this course include the style and structure of policy-making, the organisational design of government, the values and ethics of public service, the dynamics of policy implementation, constitutional context and preservation of democratic accountability, amongst others. Administration & Governance encompasses all three levels of government (federal-state-local bodies) and addresses the most important contemporary issues in economic, social and political domains. In an era of new paradigms emerging in the realm of governance, there is a need to produce skilled and trained manpower, with a new orientation, to take care of public administration and help in devising public policies for maximising the growth and development of a vast multitude of the population of our country. In an increasingly market-oriented economy, the role of public administrators and Public Policy Planners has also undergone significant changes during the last couple of decades, to remain in touch with the new and emerging scenarios.
