FUNCTION:

  • 1. The committee shall closely take stock of any product/technology developed by the university faculties. The faculty members developing such a product shall inform the committee chairman in writing, providing the details of the product/technology being developed.
  • 2. The committee shall monitor the process of development of products/technology so that there is no adverse impact on the social, environmental, and economic aspects of the region/country. The product developer shall obtain clearance from the biosafety committee of the University and shall ensure that no hazardous materials (biological or chemical) are generated during the process. If biological samples are involved, intimation to the State Biodiversity Board of the respective Indian state from where such samples are taken shall compulsorily be done. Suppose the product is developed in collaboration with any foreign agency/institution/industry. In that case, clearance/approval from the National Biodiversity Authority of India as per the provisions of the Indian Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (for biological samples) or any other authorities and relevant acts (for non-biological samples) should be taken before the product development.
  • 3. The committee shall facilitate and support the linkages with industries/agencies for commercialization of the product/technology so developed. Product/technology transfer can be done with any industry/agency after a formal agreement on Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT). The university authorities, in consultation with the product developer team and the committee, shall fix up the mechanisms for equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the product/technology so that all three stakeholders (university, product developer, and industry/agency) benefit in the long run.
